MTMGMA MISSION

  • To be the premier health care management association for Montana by providing resources, advocacy, and tools for diverse practice types, sizes and specialties for medical practice leadership and their support staff so they may be effective and efficient in their duties.

Purpose

Diversity to allow for a broad spectrum of knowledge to be shared.  Our diverse membership represents practices operating under various organizational and financial structures.

Growth:  Offer opportunities to enhance personal and professional development making members a more valuable asset to their organization.  Assist in developing members for state leaders and ACMPE certification and fellowship.

Education: Offer educational opportunities for members and their staff.  Educational opportunities to range from very specific issues being dealt with by a handful of practices to the universal issues that impact all medical organizations.

Networking: With just under 100 members, MTMGMA provides the opportunity for peer-to-peer networking with fellow health-care and business professionals with whom members can share knowledge and ideas.

Leadership: Governed by an elected board of directors comprised of medical practice leaders representing all regions of the state to include member leadership with committees and volunteerism.

History

MGMA is the nation's principal voice for the medical group practice profession.  The Association started as a small network of clinic managers, called the National Association of Clinic Managers, which met for the first time in Madison, Wis., in 1926. The name was changed to the Medical Group Management Association in 1963 to reflect the diverse management roles found in group practice.

In 1961, MGMA hired its first executive director, Edward B. Stevens, FACMPE, who served until 1971. Richard V. Grant, PhD, FACMPE served as executive director from 1971-1993. Frederick J. "Fritz" Wenzel, MBA, FACMPE, was interim executive vice president/CEO from 1993-1996. Thomas L Adams served from 1996-1998. William F. Jessee, MD, FACMPE, became president and CEO of MGMA, ACMPE and the MGMA Center for Research in 1999.

Mission

The mission of MGMA is to continually improve the performance of medical group practice professionals and the organizations they represent.

Membership

MGMA serves 22,500 members who lead and manage more than 13,700 organizations in which almost 275,000 physicians practice.

Its diverse membership comprises administrators, CEOs, physicians in management, board members, office manager and many other management professionals. They work in medical practices and ambulatory care organizations of all sizes and types, including integrated systems and hospital- and medical school-affiliated practices.
